Dear Friends, More than 50 of us opened
this new BLIC year on September 11th with a cosy dinner at Willy and Marijke's. Good food,
good drinks, good company! Though we still regret the departure from Indonesia of so many,
including our President and our Parasol-editor, quite some new faces showed up to make
sure our BLIC stays alive and kicking.
The new year also brings us a new 'crew' at the Embassy here in Jakarta. We are happy
to welcome also in our club H.E. Hans-Christian and Mrs. Carmen Kint as the new Ambassador
of the Kingdom of Belgium to Jakarta, as well as Mr. Alain Hanssen and Mrs. Ann Aspeslagh.
Our first 'real' activity, a Badui trip 'new style' turned out to be a big success. All
participants really enjoyed the 'back to basics' experience. This calls for a third
edition, so those who missed it will get another chance later this year.

We really hope you enjoy the BLIC as much as
we do, and for those who have not yet done so: don't forget to renew your membership so
you can enjoy the numerous activities and get-togethers this year! Have fun!

| BLIC tries to provide a 'bridge' between all
Belgians and Luxembourgers that live for a long or short period in Indonesia. We organize
activities on a regular basis and are always willing to provide help or advice to any of
our members. Activities include our bimonthly social dinner, historic and cultural
excursions and activities, participation in charities, sports activities and many more
(see our agenda!).
BLIC is affiliated with the Belgian Business Club (BBC). On a regular basis, a business
lunch is held with an interesting speaker.
Membership is open to Belgian and Luxembourg expats and others with links to our
countries. Activities are usually held in English. |

WANTED
Ready to join us and face “the Dutch” in the next Kwistetwel Quiz-night? No minimum IQ required, this is really
a piece of cake! Last year we surely had a lot of fun and ended 5th out of more

WANTED
We would like to challenge the Dutch on sports level as well in a six-a-side soccer match, October or November. Open
to all Belgians & Luxembourgers. It’s for fun (and for the beer of course).

HOMESICK TO THOSE DAYS IN GENT?
The
new Internet project “beeldbankgent.be” tries to bring together important
historical pictures about Gent on an Internet site. Beeldbankgent is part of the Gent.be
site (“Best web design” and “Most user friendly” European E-City
awards this year!). At present, the site displays already more than 7,500 pictures from
the “fototheek” of the former “Stedelijke Commissie van Monumenten en
Stadsgezichten (SCMS)” and 3,494 architectoral pictures from the seventeenth and
eighteenth century. Step by step more pictures of other offices are added. In the near
future, it should be possible to order reproductions of certain pictures online.
Pictures
from the SCMS dated between 1860 and 1965 show you how certain suburbs and buildings have
changed substantially during this period. (Did you know that the “Gravensteen”
monument used to be a textile factory at the start of last century?)
The
search engine on this site works very smoothly. A small min is that you should always
enter a search item, even if you just like to browse around. This site is in Dutch and
worth a visit. Have fun!

Start your weekend in the best possible way you can imagine and come out
to join us for some jogging and running in the Ragunan zoo every Saterday morning. We
(Dutch and Belgians, men and women) gather next to the main entrance (Jl. Harsono) at 6.30
